What is Roof Underlayment?

What is Roof Underlayment?

Roof underlayment is a material that acts as a barrier against moisture, wind and cold temperatures to provide additional support and insulation for your roof. If you notice leaks or drafts in your home, call a professional for a roofing underlayment inspection.

The three most common types of underlayment are rubberized asphalt, asphalt saturated felt and non-bitumen synthetic. Rubberized asphalt is cost-effective, crack-resistant and environmentally friendly. Asphalt saturated felt offers strong water resistance. Non-bitumen synthetic underlayment is fungal-resistant, lightweight and very resistant to UV damage. The type of underlayment you choose will determine the overall strength, integrity and longevity of your roof. No matter which material you choose, thicker underlayments are usually more resistant to damage than thinner ones.
